Product Review: Coleman Organic Chicken
Coleman Natural Foods has been in business since 1875. This company has very strict standards--the use of antibiotics and growth hormones in their chickens is prohibited. The chickens are fed a vegetarian diet and are allowed to mature naturally. Coleman's sustainability practices set a good example for other companies that raise poultry as well as other animals.
I'm fortunate enough to have access to Coleman's products from time to time. My favorite product from this company is the organic chicken. I've never been disappointed with these chickens. This product speaks for itself after the package is opened: plump chickens without a lot of extra fat; and with very-healthy looking skin. They've obviously been raised well and processed with care.
There is another great bonus with these chickens: the neck and giblets. Many years ago, all processed chickens had the neck and giblets available--whether the chickens were fryers, hens or anything between. Somewhere along the line, most companies decided that they could make more money by selling the neck and giblets separately. This was a great loss for the family dinner table since extra "treats" were no longer available on "fried chicken night."
I recommend Coleman chickens for any chicken recipe. They're great baked, fried, fricasseed, grilled, poached, steamed...you name it. Coleman Natural products are available at Costco, H.E.B. and other stores in my area, which is South Central Texas. If you'd like to locate Coleman's products, try the handy store locator.
